Bangladesh welcomes fresh Indo-Pak moves

Bangladesh yesterday welcomed the fresh moves by India and Pakistan towards normalising relations between the two nuclear rivals, with a hope that peace would be restored reducing the tensions in the region.

" We're appreciative of both the countries for their latest moves... Both the countries need to engage in dialogue to reduce tension and bring peace for creating a better future of the people in South Asia," Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan told journalists here yesterday evening.

New Delhi recently put forward a set of proposals in its peace overtures for Islamabad--some of those having been hailed by Pakistan.

" It's welcoming that both the countries have come forward realising that present situation cannot go long. We hope that leadership of India and Pakistan would find a meaningful solution to the problems for a permanent peace," Morshed Khan said.

Asked about prospect of the latest peace moves, he said a positive result would emerge. " It's important that the two countries are engaged in discussions, and we hope that the results would be positive," he said.
