BTTB introduces prepaid phone card by June

Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) will introduce overseas and inter-district prepaid calling cards by June next year.

A proposal for the Tk 18.21 crore project is likely to be approved tomorrow at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the chair.

The prepaid cards of Tk 100, Tk 500 and Tk 1,000 will allow users to call from all types of phone.

The system will allow simultaneous calls of 2,000 users. Dhaka-based users will be able to make both ISD (international subscriber dialing) and NWD (nationwide dialing) calls, while users outside Dhaka will be able to make only ISD calls.

A high official of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications said the system is believed to eliminate 'ghost-billing', as users will have a straight way of making long-distance calls.
