US to toughen visitors' entry from January

The United States Immigration Authorities are going to introduce a tough system for the visitors' entry to the country from January 5 next year.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in an announcement recently said under the new system, the authorities will scan twice the fingerprints of all visitors who will arrive in the US through airport or seaport.

They will also take digital photographs of the visitors at the entrance.

The automatic entry and exit process is going to be introduced under the project US Visitor and Immigration Status Indicator Technology in line with the Immigration Reforms Law of the US Congress, the announcement added.

The fresh system will be launched at the 115 international airports and 14 major seaports in the country. The land ports will come under the rule within next year.

Meanwhile, some human rights organisations and civil liberties unions criticised the system the Bush administration is going to implement, alleging that it is discriminatory against the non-immigrants.
