HC stays BSB sale notice on Observer property

The High Court has stayed the operation of a sale notice of the Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (BSB) served upon Al-Helal Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd., publisher of English Daily The Bangladesh Observer.

The notice was issued and published on October 20 in the Daily Janakantha.

The court in its November 2 order also asked the BSB to explain why the notice of sale should not be declared illegal.

A HC bench comprising Justice Md. Awlad Ali and Justice Md. Miftahuddin Chowdhury heard the matter to issue the rule.

Challenging the notice of direct sale of mortgaged property of the BSB -- the property of the Bangladesh Observer -- Al-Helal Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd. filed a writ with the High Court. It alleged that the BSB did not serve any notice upon it about the sale and so the BSB move was arbitrary.
