Seven killed in Gazaria accident

Seven of eight passengers of a Comilla-bound microbus from Dhaka were killed in a head-on collision with a passenger bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Boushia under Gazaria upazila yesterday."A bus rammed into a Comilla-bound microbus at the entrance of Meghna-Gomti Bridge on the highway at noon," says a firsthand report. The dead, all friends and relatives of the lone survivor Walid, 30, were on their way to Comilla for the burial of Walid's mother. The deceased were identified as Protiq, 35, his wife Mammi, 29, nephew Sajal, 20, and friends Mamun, 30, Manik, 28, Rupak, 32, and Nadim, 32, the driver of the microbus. Seriously injured Walid was sent to Dhaka Pangu Hospital. Police and administrative officials visited the spot. Police seized the passenger bus, but its driver managed to escape. The microbus was reduced to a wreck.
