Khulna cops release arms trader hours after arrest

Listed smuggler and illegal arms trader Shamsul Alam alias 'Black' Shamsu, arrested Sunday night on various charges, was released from Khulna Police Station yesterday morning. An accomplice of notorious criminal Ershad Shikder, now in prison carrying death penalty, Shamsu was picked up from Khulna Bazar at about 10:00pm. He was provided with special facilities for overnight stay at the office of Officer-in-Charge Shafiul Azam, sources said. Shamsu's men were given easy access with breakfast and cigarettes for him in the morning. The OC said there is no new charge against him and he got bail in previous cases. He was hunted by the joint forces during the Operation Clean Heart and Operation Spider Web.
