Test is history

A positive frame of mind is a rare quality. And Dav Whatmore does possess this aplenty.

The 49-year-old may be still burning inside after that disappointing defeat in the second Test, but his body language during the practice session at the MA Aziz Stadium suggested that he was already looking forward rather than dwelling in the past.

Whatmore, who has become like a protective father, not only handle the critical media after the 329-run defeat inside four days but also appeared full of life ahead of the one-day battle against Michael Vaughan's England.

He also did not want to dig into the two-match Test saying it was history.

"We still have three days in hand before the ODI series starts. And I would like to concentrate exclusively on the upcoming first match and nothing else right now bears any importance to me," Whatmore said after a three-hour practice session yesterday.

The first one-dayer will be held at the MA Aziz Stadium on November 7.

"What right or wrong we did in the Tests is not important at this time since my boys wanted to forget that. Every defeat has, of course, a bearing but one should not hold on to those memories.

"We are doing hard work for the one-day matches and we want to give at least some real challenge or fighting punch to our opponents," said Whatmore.

The day's work of Whatmore started at 10am but not before he welcomed two new faces in Anwar Hossain Monir and Jamal Babu.

Paceman Monir and off-spinner Jamal have been included in the 13-member squad for the first one-day.

The training largely focused on intense fielding and batting practice. The idea was to show the batsmen how to visualise the fields, take singles without going for big hits and also playing shots when there is an opportunity.

Meanwhile, the national team is likely to play a limited-overs practice match against a combined Chitta-gong District eleven today.

General secretary of Chattagram Jela Krira Sangstha (CJKS) Shahed Asgar Chowdhury said the match might be played provided the ground is ready.

"We can't confirm it right now as the groundsman unaware of any such game sprinkled water on the outfield. If the field dried up by tonight we can expect a match tomorrow (Tuesday)," he said.
