Another Ro Ro ferry in service at Paturia

Ro Ro ferry Shah Mokhdum, was pressed into service at Paturia Ghat on Sunday after renovation. Shipping Minister Akbar Hossain inaugurated the ferry at a simple function. BIWTC Chairman Shamshur Rahman Shimul Biswas presided at the function. The ferry has been renovated at Khulna Shipyard at a cost of Tk 4,87,0027, mobilised from BIWTC's fund. Another Ro Ro ferryShah Ali was repaired at a cost of about Tk 5 crore at a dockyard in Narayanganj in March. Two other ferries -- Shah Jalal and Amanot Shah --will be renovated soon at Knulna and Nayaranganj shipyards at a cost of about Tk 10 crore. BIWTC sources said a Danish company had offered to repair the four ferries at Tk 67 crore. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry Golam Mohammad Siraj and committee members Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Abul Hossain Khan and local MP Shamshuddin Ahmed, Shipping Ministry Secretary Zulfikar Haidar Chowdhury, BIWTA Chairman Abul Hossain Chowdhury, Khulna Shipyard Managing Director Capt. ASM Abedin, BIWTC Director (technical) SM Shahjahan Ali, BIWTC Board member Abdul Wahab Khan, former president of BIWTC Officers Welfare Association Capt. Showkat Sardar and BIWTC Employees Association Secretary Gias Uddin were also present at the function.
