Freedom fighter Sabu dead

Valiant freedom fighter and Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Command Council, Mesbahuddin Ahmed Sabu died of cardiac arrest at the Suhrawardy Hospital early yesterday at the age of 55.Sabu, also general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal and Vice-President of Bangladesh Kho Kho Federation, is survived by one son and a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. His namaz-e-janaza was held at Mugdapara, Muktijoddha Command Council, Pirjongi Mazar premises and BNP central office. BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Information Minister Tariqul Islam, State Minister for Public Works Alamgir Kabir and a large number of activists of BNP and its front organisations took part in the janaza at BNP central office. Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka and Rashed Khan Menon of Workers Party also attended the janaza held after the Zohr prayers. Later he was buried at his family graveyard at Mugdapara with state honour. Meanwhile Bangladesh Muktijoddha Command Council announced a three-day condolence programme at the death of Sabu. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death of Sabu. In a condolence message, Khaleda said the country lost a valiant freedom fighter in his demise. "The nation will remember Sabu's contribution to the War of Liberation and his role as a social worker and an organiser of freedom fighters." She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathies to members of the bereaved family. Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan andSadek Hossain Khoka, Bangladesh Olympic Association President Lt Gen Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, Sramik Dal President Nazrul Islam Khan and City BNP General Secretary Abdus Salam also condoled the death of Sabu.
