Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) will stage a sit-in today in front of the registrar building to press home their demands including the removal of the vice-chancellor.Their other demands included VC panel election and punishment to Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists who confined the Saheed Salam Barkat (SSB) hall authorities on August 11. A meeting of the academic council, scheduled for today, is unlikely to be held as members of the council belonging to JUTA have decided to boycott it. Another meeting for processing the formalities for first year admission could not be held yesterday due to absence of the teachers, sources said. Bangladesh Chhatra Union in an open letter has urged the Chancellor Prof Iajuddin Ahmed to help solve the campus problems. Bangladesh Chhatra Front also published similar open letter yesterday. Meanwhile, all academic and administrative activities of the university have collapsed as the indefinite strike called by JUTA continued for the 20th consecutive day yesterday. Most of the classes were not held while examinations remained suspended in the face of the teachers' movement. About 80 percent students have already left the campus.
