Two hundred and sixteen judge's posts are vacant in the country, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Moudud Ahmed told the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday.

The posts remained vacant due to retirement, promotion and non-recruitment of judges for long, Moudud said, replying to a question from Abdus Sobhan of Pabna-5 constituency.

The minister told the House that the government took up a plan to appoint new judges to the vacant posts.

The minister told another questioner, Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain of Feni-3 constituency, that construction and expansion works of judge's courts in 22 districts are on in full swing.

The districts are Comilla, Sylhet, Khulna, Bogra, Gazipur, Rangpur, Maulvibazar, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria, Feni, Bhola, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Barisal, Bagerhat, Dhaka, Cox's Bazar, Pabna, Thakurgaon, Madaripur, Mymensingh and Munshiganj.

Besides, another two-storey building is being constructed for a new district and sessions judge's court in Sherpur.
