Who is a terrorist?
Hafeejul Alam, Dhaka
The entire West Asia is simmering with bloody clashes between the US-led coalition forces and the so-called "terrorists". By the way, who is a terrorist? The one who fights for his own country or the one who occupies another country? The United Nations should come forward to define "terrorism" in its true perspective; or else the term would continue to be massively abused. However, Mr. Bush has a very catchy phrase to defend himself and that is nothing less than "Liberation". It is really unfortunate that a great country like the United States which showed the world the true meaning of "democracy" and "liberty", is being led by a person who appears to be hell bent on blurring the sublime image of his country --the land of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and many other great personalities. It is said that the Bush administration is extremely eager to "liberate" Iraq at any cost. Well, if he is so impatient to "liberate" people from dictatorships, why doesn't he try to "liberate" people of many other countries of the world reeling under different types of autocratic rule? The answer is known to all of us. I believe Mr. Bush is now feeling the price of "bestowing liberation" upon the people of even a visibly powerless country like Iraq! The Americans and the members of other coalition forces are losing their lives in hundreds for a cause far from noble. On the other hand, more and more volunteers are reportedly joining in to liberate Iraq from the US-led forces. It's common knowledge that foreign powers can only colonise, never liberate people. Therefore, whatever the costs, the land of Iraq will definitely be liberated by the Iraqis themselves. Remember, world conscience is on their side.
