Don't forget 1971

A report in November 15 DS gives a picture of clashes between the respective student wings of the alliance partners -- the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami. It is a pity that the BNP, with so many freedom fighters in its midst, has not learnt from the 1971 episode.

Those who have a philosophical contempt for popular sovereignty care for neither friends nor foes in their bid to impose theocracy on the nation. They enter into alliance with others only as a temporary measure to further consolidate their gains.

As JCD students are finding out with each dead comrade, democrats and theocrats cannot co-exist. Let us call the nationalists' alliance with theocrats what it is: a pact with the evil.
