Seven persons including a policeman were injured during a clash between activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islamic Chattra Shibir (ICS) at Palashbari Tuesday night.Police fired eleven blank shots and several tear gas shells to quell the violence that created panic in the area. Shopkeepers downed their shutters and communication on the Rangpur-Bogra highway through Palashbari was suspended for about an hour. After the clash, JCD activists ransacked the office of Jamaat-e-Islami in Palashbari. Police said medicine trader Bulu Mia and brick field owner Abdul Halim were at odds over a disputed land. On Tuesday in the evening, there was a row between Shibir activist Shakib and JCD activist Raihen on the issue. The matter soon spread and activists JCD and ICS brought out separate processions. Many of the processionists were armed, witnesses and police said. As the processionists faced each other, a fierce clash broke out. Police swung into action and brought the situation under control. Seriously injured JCD activist Raihan and Sub-Inspector Abdul Khaleque have been admitted to hospital. Additional police force have been deployed in the area. None was arrested. Sources said leaders of BNP and Jamaat were trying to resolve the crisis.
