Sources at the District Relief and Rehabilitation Office said 500 cards have been sanctioned for each of 78 unions under seven upazilas and 1,500 cards for Satkhira Pourasabha and 500 cards for Kalaroa Pourasabha.

The union parishad and pourasabha chairmen have been directed to prepare lists on a priority basis to ensure food assistance for distressed people from the current month.

A total of 4,050 metric tons (MTs) of rice have been allotted for distribution among the distressed people. Each cardholder will get 10 kg of rice for one month.

The rice will be distributed among the distressed people ahead of the Eid.

The rice will be distributed against 5,500 cards in Asassasuni Upazila, 7,000 in Sadar, 600 each in Tala, Kalaroa, Kaliganj and Shymnagar, 2,500 cards in Debhata, 1,000 cards in Satkhira Pourasabha and 500 cards in Kalaroa Pourasabha.
