Transport leader shot dead on Faridpur Medical College campus


A transport leader was shot dead on Faridpur Medical College campus Monday night.

Amir Ali, 36, joint secretary of District Transport Workers Union, came under attack by five young men while he was sitting at the canteen he runs there.

The gunmen shot him in the head and throat point-blank and left the spot, firing blank shots. He died instantly.

Police said Amir himself was accused in 15 criminal cases including three for murders.

After the incident, transport workers put up barricades on the Faridpur-Rajbari Highway, disrupting traffic for several hours.

A case was filed against nine people including General Secretary of local Bus Owners Forum Kamal Siddiqui and his two brothers.
