Rajshahi college ransacked

Students of Bangabandhu Degree College at Bhadra yesterday vandalised some rooms of the college and set fire to furniture in the afternoon.

At least 20 students stormed the college rooms at around 4:00pm and burnt the chairs, tables and benches, police and witnesses said.

The agitating students, backed by outsiders, were demanding withdrawal of the suspension order against the college principal, a teacher said.

AKM Rafiqul Islam, additional divisional commissioner, in an order suspended Principal Abdur Razzak on charge of corruption and misuse of funds on December 1.

Asked about filing a case, Razzak said, "The attackers were students of the college, so, whom will I accuse in the case?"

Officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station Aslam Iqbal said they cannot move with the incident, as no complaint was filed.
