On-bail mugger guns down college student to avenge arrest

An alleged mugger released on bail last night gunned down a college student who caught and handed him over to police, a high police official who went to the scene said.

Sazedur Rahman Mithu, 20, a first year B.Com student of Habibullah Bahar College, took six revolver shots in the city's Rampura area at about 9:30pm and died on the scene.

The police officer on the spot said the mugger's gang might have killed Mithu to avenge his arrest.

He said Mithu came under the attack on the Wapda Road when he was chatting with some of his friends.

Three unknown young men raced to the spot and felled him in a burst of staccato shots point blank.

Mithu was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body was kept there for autopsy.
