World AIDS Day
Molla Mohammad Shaheen, Dept of English, DU
The people across the globe observed World AIDS Day on December 1. At present, AIDS is an epidemic. But, sadly, the world leaders keep mum. They are gung-ho to augment their military arsenal. Many people do not have adequate knowledge about AIDS or HIV. AIDS is a menace for Bangladesh as India, the closest neighbour of Bangladesh, has a plethora of AIDS patients. The authority concerned should take precautionary steps to check it. Mass media can play a pivotal role to ventilate the aftermath of this malady among the public. The medics should be trained to treat AIDS patients. NGOs and the government should arrange seminars and advocacy meetings to create awareness. The red light districts need to be underlined. I hope all will be conscious to ward off AIDS, a human catastrophe.
