BNP calls hartal in Raozan today


Local unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called a dawn to dusk hartal in Raozan today protesting the murder of a pro-BNP union parishad (UP) chairman here on Thursday.

Abu Taher,45, chairman of Pashcim Guraja Union Parishad, was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was going to a local market at around 4:30pm.

Agitating locals yesterday put up barricades on the Chittagong-Kaptai Highway, disrupting traffic for seven hours.They also damaged some vehicles during the time.

The slain chairman was buried at his family graveyard after Juma prayers yesterday. A large number of people, including the leaders and activists of local BNP, attended the funeral.

However, police could not nab any of the killers till yesterday evening.
