Myanmar envoy calls on Hasina


Outgoing Ambassador of Myanmar U Ohn Thwin called on Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at her Sudha Sadan residence yesterday.

The envoy thanked Hasina for her assistance and cooperation during the tenure of AL government in discharging his duties and mentioned his activities to strengthen bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

He said Myanmar was one of the first countries to accord recognition to Bangladesh after the War of Liberation.

Hasina said the friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries have been existing for long. Many people had taken shelter in Myanmar during the War of Liberation, she added.

She said both Bangladesh and Myanmar are member countries of regional umbrella BIMSTEC and should work together to improve the peoples' economic and social conditions.

AL General secretary Abdul Jalil MP, AL International Affairs Secretary Syed Abul Hossain MP and Hasina's Press Adviser Jawadul Karim were present at the meeting.
