Apollo Hospital to be set up in Dhaka

Setting up of an unit of Apollo Hospitals Group of Kolkata in Dhaka is underway at a cost of Tk 200 crore to provide most modern treatment facilities to Bangladeshi patients.

This was stated by V Satyanarayana Reddy, chief executive officer of the hospital at a press conference at a city hotel yesterday.

He said the unit would start functioning with the import of necessary medical equipment within the next three to six months. It will be housed at a building in Baridhara, he added.

Satyanarayana said an international information centre has also been opened in Dhaka to facilitate treatment of Bangladeshi patients at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals in Kolkata.

The centre at Mohammadpur will provide counseling to patients seeking better medical treatment in the neighbouring country on medical referral, pre-travel medical advice, direct access to medical specialists, accommodation, ticketing and visas, he added.

"We intend to inform Bangladeshi patients how they can avail the latest diagnostic facilities and super medical service at Apollo Hospitals in Kolkata in a convenient and cost-effective manner through this centre," said Dr Amitava Pahari.

The centre aims at providing detailed information to Bangladeshi patients about its special health care services spending less money and labour, said Tamal Bhattachariya, director of Apollo Hospitals.

He said to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the region, Apollo Hospitals Group has opened its latest 325-bed unit in Kolkata in collaboration with Singapore-based Parkway Group Healthcare.

Dr Saw Chit Aung was present at the press conference on behalf of the Parkway Group.
