Mokhlisur Rahman murder
Hearing on main accused Matin's bail prayer deferred

Hearing of bail prayer of contractor Abdul Matin Chowdhury, main accused in the aviation businessman Mokhlisur Rahman murder case, was deferred to December 14.

The Vacation Judge of Sylhet District Judge Court, Md Amir Hossain deferred it.

Abdul Matin Chowdhury had been absconding just after the broad day light murder on October 6. He appeared before a High Court bench on October 27 and sought ad interim bail. The High Court asked him to appear before the district Judge court within four weeks for bail. The High Court also asked police not to harass him. Accordingly, Matin Chowdhury appeared before the District Judge Court on November 22 when the court granted him ad interim bail as the Public Prosecutor did not raise any objection.

Meantime, the family members of murdered Mokhlisur Rahman alleged death threats from Chowdhury and demanded his immediate arrest. In a press statement last week the victim's son Abul Hasan Mohammad Ashraf alleged that after getting bail Chowdhury has been threatening their family members of dire consequences.

He also lodged a General Diary with Sylhet Kotwali police station on November 23 stating the threats.

The Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, Sub- Inspector Fazlul Haque Shibli also applied to the Judge court for cancellation of Chowdhury's bail for safety of Mokhlisur Rahman's family members.

Matin Chowdhury appealed for permanent bail in the judge court on December 1, but the court set December 4 for hearing of the matter and asked police to submit the case diary before the court. Accordingly it was done, but the hearing could not be held, as the PP was absent although an APP was present.

Late Mokhlisur Rahman's widow Nazma Begum termed Matin Chowdhury as the main conspirator of her husband's killing and demanded his immediate arrest. She alleged that all the family members got worried due to the continuous threats by Chowdhury and his men.
