2 overbridges to be built in Khulna
Project okayed by ministry, approved at pre-ECNEC meeting, says Mayor

Two overbridges will be constructed at a cost of Tk 13 crore in Khulna city to solve the traffic jam problem.

A project profile (PP) prepared in this regard by Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has been okayed at a pre-ECNEC meeting.

KCC authorities expect final approval of the PP at the next meeting of ECNEC.

According to KCC Chief Engineer Liaquat Ali Sharif, the proposed overbridges will be constructed at Dakbunglaw square and KDA New Market intersection, the busiest places in the city.

The PP has been prepared in response to instruction of communication ministry, Sharif said.

The demand for two overbridges in Khulna city was raised by Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman at the ADP (annual development programme) review meeting held on August 6 with LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in the chair.

The PP was okayed at the review meeting and later at a pre-ECNEC meeting.

"I hope it will get final approval in the next ECNEC meeting" he said.

KCC is "fully ready" for inviting tenders for construction of the two proposed overbridges after ECNEC finally okays the project, he said.

City Mayor, when asked, said he has no doubt about approval of the project at the next ECNEC.

"I have been assured by all high officials of the ministries concerned about getting funds for this", the Mayor said.
