Banshkhali probe
Police claim success
Staff Correspondent, Ctg
Police and intelligence agents claimed to have found some important leads and established the identity of the guilty of the Banshkhali bloodbath by grilling the prime suspect held in a sweep three days ago. Basing on the information given by Abdul Karim alias Kalu, the law enforcers arrested four attackers who incinerated 11 of a Hindu family in Shilpara, 35 kilometres south of Chittagong city, on November 18. Police said they were tracking down the whereabouts of the four perpetrators of the massacre, believed to have also suffered burns in the arson, by secretly screening the clinics and hospitals in the region. "The whole picture would emerge soon if we can arrest the four undergoing treatment somewhere in the region," a top police officer said without giving his name. "We won't disclose their identities in the interest of investigation." Sources said the law enforcers were moving slowly to arrest the attackers as they enjoyed backing from local ruling BNP leaders. They believe a land feud between the Shil family and a local ruling BNP man was at the heart of the grisly massacre, but police did not make any comment. "We will give you details after arrest of the attackers," a police officer said. The prime suspect was taken on a seven-day remand for interrogation.
