Video shows new angle of Sept 11 attacks
AFP, New York
US television networks ran clips from a video posted on an al-Qaeda linked website, showing two planes hitting the World Trade Centre and taped from an angle apparently never seen before. Both NBC and CNN cited counter-terror experts Friday as saying the footage seemed to be never-before-broadcast images of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the twin towers. The video was evidently taped from a position across the East River from Manhattan in Brooklyn. FBI officials only said they were aware of the video. It was not immediately clear how it came to be posted Wednesday on the al Qaeda-affiliated website. NBC said the video had been produced by a company that has made other tapes for Osama bin Laden's network. Other footage on the tape showed members of the Islamist militant group training in Saudi Arabia. In the video, Abdel al-Otaibi, a militant later killed by Saudi authorities, is heard saying: "I strongly encourage young Muslims to join the jihad for Allah's sake to protect our land and to drive Christians and Jews out of Muslim countries."
