Preparations on for Biswa Ijtema from Dec 27

Preparations are on for this year's Biswa Ijtema, the biggest congregation of Muslims next to Hajj, at Tongi.

The three-day Ijtema, organised by the Tablig Jammat, will begin from December 27.

Every year, more than 1.5 million Muslims from around the world join the grand meet. Devotees from Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Middle Eastern Muslim countries pray for divine blessings, unity and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah.

Volunteers have already started setting up pandals over an area of about two square miles. Hundreds of devotees from Kakrail Grand Mosque and other mosques and students from madrassahs and different religious institutions are carrying bamboo poles, gunny etc to the spot for the purpose.

Organisers expect this year's congregation to be larger than last year's. Keeping this in mind, they have decided to expand the eastern end of the venue.

Meanwhile, the road to the site of congregation that was badly damaged during the rainy season requires immediate repair.
