ADB team reviews progress of crop diversification project


A five-member delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Project Economist Ahsan Toyub on Saturday discussed with Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) officials progress in implementation of the ambitious Northwest Crop Diversification Project (NCDP).

The seven-year project involves Tk 341.91 crore and ADB will provide Tk 236.36 crore of it, RAKUB sources said.

RAKUB, in cooperation with some other government and non- government organizations has been implementing the project aimed at producing surplus high-valued crops including fruits and vegetables.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is supervising the programme as the prime implementing agency.

The objective of the project is to produce 3.70 lakh tons of high-value corps and fruits to benefit two lakh farmers. It will also train 1.6 lakh farmers in modern farming technology.

NCDP covers 60 upazilas under 16 districts in Rajshahi division.

The delegation also held meetings DAE authorities and reviewed progress in implementation of the project.
