Khaleda, Mobarak talk on coop

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Egyptian President Hosne Mubarak have agreed to further strengthen ties in various fields, including trade and economy, between the two countriesThe two leaders had a meeting yesterday on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) at Palexpo, the conference venue. During the meeting, Khaleda sought Egypt's support to Bangladesh's candidature for the post of general secretary of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). Responding to Khaleda's request, Mubarak extended his country's support to the Bangladesh candidate. Mubarak briefed Khaleda on the Middle East and Iraq issues. Khaleda thanked Mubarak for his positive role in the Middle East situation and strengthening the Muslim ummah. Khaleda reiterated her country's call to reconstruct Iraq under the United Nations in line with the hopes and aspirations of the Iraqi people. The Bangladesh prime minister also held a meeting with the President of Niger Tandja Mamadou at Palexpo. The two leaders stressed the need for organising high-level meetings among the small countries to take common stand on the issues of common interest. President Tandja supported Bangladesh's candidature for the top OIC job.
