Curator's verdict

Adelaide Oval curator Les Burdett said on Wednesday he has produced one of the best pitches of his 35-year career for Friday's second Test between Australia and India.Burdett said the flat, evenly grassed strip would offer plenty of runs on the opening two days, then assist both spin and pace bowlers as it deteriorated later in the match. "I've seen some pretty good pitches out there, this one I'd rate right with the top of them," Burdett said on Wednesday. "It's got a very consistent grass cover, it has rolled out exceptionally flat, there are no waves in it, it's very consistent down the middle. "I think the pitch won't be responsible for a batsman's dismissal and I think it's going to have good consistent carry, which is what batsmen and bowlers want." The forecast is for the possibility of showers on Friday followed by fine weather for the rest of the Test.
