Shabana and Naseeruddin to ease Indo-Pak tensions
The participation of veteran Indian film actors Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah at a three-day Indo- Pakistan peace meet in Karachi from December 12, may go a long way towards easing existing tensions between the two countries.Apart from Shabana and Shah, 274 other Indians are expected here on Thursday to attend the convention. The Indian delegation includes artists, literary figures, actors, journalists, human rights activists and parliamentarians. Among them are Ram Jethmalani, Raj Babbar, poet and film director Gulzar. People's Forum for Peace and Democracy (PFPD) Lahore Chairperson Liaquat Ali was quoted by the Daily Times as saying that arrangements for the moot had been finalised, including plans to give a warm welcome to the Indian team at the Wagah check post that presently separates the two countries. He said the delegation would take part in a colourful ceremony, including musical programmes and a luncheon reception before moving on to Lahore and Karachi. He said measures for Indo-Pak better ties, globalisation, increasing religious intolerance in both India and Pakistan, minority rights, militarisation, Kashmir and human rights would be major subjects at the three-day meeting. "We think a lot of work is still required to end tension between the two countries," Ali added. Source: Asian News International
