Hartal observed in district, 19 BNP men accused

A daylong hartal was observed in the district yesterday to protest the murder of local Awami League (AL) leader Shamsul Alam Suruj who was hacked to death allegedly by ruling BNP men at Charitabari in Aditmari upazila Monday.The victim's brother filed a case with Aditmari Police Station accusing 19 local leaders and activists of BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) of murdering the AL leader, who was also chairman of Kamlabari Union Parishad under Aditmari upazila. Reports from different parts of the district said all businesses remained closed and road and rail communications with the district headquarters remained suspended during the peaceful hartal. Local AL and its front organisations brought out protest processions and organised rallies during the hartal hours demanding arrest and punishment of the killers. No-one was arrested till yesterday, police said.
