Three-in-one year Brazil

Brazil celebrated its triple crown of world titles as the country's football federation paid tribute to its teams' across-the-board success.

The World Cup trophy, plus those of the under-20 and under-17 world championships, were put on display by the federation in a luxurious, resort hotel in Rio de Janeiro in the presence of the respective captains in Cafu, Adailton and Joao Guilherme.

The world's best team trophy, bestowed on Brazil by football's world governing body FIFA last week, was also on show.

Cafu, the only player to have appeared in the last three World Cup finals - winning in 1994 and 2002 - said: ""We, the players, never had any doubt we could do this. No country has held all three of these titles at once. Only Brazil was able to do it."

Almost the whole of the under-20 squad, which beat Spain 1-0 in the final in Abu Dhabi last Friday, were in attendance.

Striker Fernandinho, who scored the winning goal, said: "I cannot describe the emotion we felt in winning the title. I don't think it has sunk in yet."

Dudu Cearense, another outstanding player in the under-20 side, had another reason to celebrate when he learned he had been called up to the Olympic squad.

"In addition to winning the trophy that gave Brazil the triple crown, I have been selected to the Olympic squad," he said. "The Olympic gold is the only world trophy we do not have on show here and winning it in Athens next year will be a major priority.

"

The senior team won their fifth World Cup title in June last year in Yokohama, Japan after beating Germany 2-0 in the final. The under-17 team won their championship in August in Helsinki.
