Withdraw class bar for govt. college teachers

It is good news that the government has decided to appoint 400 more lecturers for government colleges by next June . In this connection, we would fervently hope and pray that the Ministry of Education would kindly fix up the same principle and standards regarding academic qualifications of the candidates as applicable to the teachers of non-government colleges. Relaxation of one third class/division in any public examination may kindly be made equally applicable to the teachers of government colleges. One third class/division in any public examination may be an accidental, unlucky event of an examinee's academic career and for this one third class he cannot be adjudged inferior to a all-second class holders. A one-third-class holder with considerable higher marks/points in aggregate may be considered better than an all-second-class holders with bare minimum marks.

Who will say that a one-third-class holder with two first divisions and with an aggregate of 2100 marks is inferior in merit to an all-second class holders with marginal aggregate marks of 1600? A one-third-class holder with one or more second classes/divisions merits consideration to compete along with all-second class holders for the post of lecturers in the government colleges.

Since the recruitment of teachers will be finalised through a standard process of written examination, viva and aptitude test, one-third-class holders with one or more first class/division deserve to be considered eligible for sitting for the recruitment test to be conducted by the Public Service Commission. It is also not unlikely that one-third-class holders with better results in rest of the public examinations would score high positions in the recruitment examination of the PSC and they may deliver better services if selected finally for appointment as lecturers. All-second-class is not a yard-stick for measuring the merit and fitness for the post of a teacher in government or non-government colleges.

It is not an established fact that one third-class-holders have proved unfit and unworthy for teaching job and all-second class-holders are all fit and worthy for the same. As far as we guess the imposition of one third class bar was the product of some injudicious brain and it is simply a blind imitation of the illogical legacy by the decision-makers without consideration of its pros and cons. It should be mentioned here that the government has recently withdrawn one third class bar for recruitment of teachers in non-government colleges and this step of the government has been highly appreciated by all quarters. We fervently hope that the Honourable Prime Minister and Education Minister would kindly see that no third class embargo is imposed by the PSC while advertising for the posts of lecturers for government colleges . The Prime Minister and the Education Minister will be considered to have done a splendid job if the third class bar imposed by the impudent brains is kindly withdrawn and large number of one-third-class holders with one or more first divisions are given a chance to test their ability, competence and merit for the teaching job in government colleges. It should be mentioned here that the recruitment of teachers in government colleges shall be made after evaluation of aggregate marks/points/grades secured in the written examinations, viva and aptitude tests and not on the basis of classes/divisions obtained in the public examinations alone.

It shall, therefore, be a sheer injustice if one-third-class holders with better results in rest of the public examinations are deprived of the opportunity to compete in the recruitment examinations to be conducted by the PSC for appointing 400 lecturers as decided by the government.
