Tourists pack Cox's Bazar to welcome new year

About one lakh tourists from home and abroad have flocked to the southeastern resort town of Cox's Bazar to celebrate the New Year's Eve and the New Year.

The hotels and motels in the beach town were crammed with tourists and some of the accommodation facilities were preparing to welcome the New Year with special programmes.

Motel Probal and Motel Upal authorities will stage concerts while some will offer the young people a chance to herald the arrival of the New Year with fireworks on the beach.

Many organisations kicked off seafront cultural programmes by 7:30pm yesterday.

Cox's Bazar district authorities deployed about 100 policemen in the town to keep peace during the celebrations.
