Justice Aziz elevated to Appellate Division

Justice MA Aziz has been elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court evoking sharp criticism from a section of the lawyers.He takes oath at 10:30am today. Chief Justice K M Hasan will administer the oath, said officials of the Supreme Court. In an instant reaction, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud, told reporters that senior most judge Syed Amirul Islam has now been superseded three times. The government by appointing Aziz proved its headstrong attitude. The common demand of the lawyers that vacancies should be filled up on a seniority basis has been totally ignored, he observed.
