Guehenno, a French national, will be accompanied by two senior officials of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

He is expected to meet a number of senior civil and military officials and also likely to visit Bangladesh Institution for Peace Support Operation and Training (BIPSOT) in Rajendrapur.

His visit comes at a time when people of Bangladesh mourns the death of 15 Bangladeshi peacekeepers in a plane crash in Benin.

As the highest-ranking UN official dealing with peacekeeping affairs, he will get a firsthand view of the capabilities and expertise available in Bangladesh in terms of contributing to global peace and security under the aegis of the UN.

Bangladesh is the second largest troops contributing country to the UN peacekeeping operations.
