Intra-JCD clash leaves 3 injured at RU

Two factions of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in a show of power fired shots and blasted cocktails Wednesday night and locked into a clash yesterday morning, leaving at least three injured.

Activists of the JCD, student wing of the ruling BNP, also vandalised and set fire to a room of Habibur Rahman (HR) Hall, sparking tension on the campus, said police and witnesses.

Seriously injured Darul Huda was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while Assistant General Secretary of RU unit JCD Sajjadur Rahman and activist Mirja received first aid.

The clash between the two groups led by Organising Secretary Rafiqul Islam and Sajjad was to establish supremacy and wrest share of the toll, sources said.

The clash began following Rafiqul group's assault on Durul with hammers in front of the Central Library and ransack of Sajjad's room at the HR Hall.

A contingent of police has been deployed at the HR Hall and some other points on the campus to avert further violence.

Motiar Rahman, president of the JCD's RU unit, said stern action would be taken against the activists responsible for the incident.
