A dismal walk around the Curzon Hall area
Tawhid Ilahi, Curzon Hall
This morning I was reading 'A dismal walk and some hope' by my favourite and venerable editor Mahfuz Anam. After reading the piece , I was filled with sheer agony, disappointment, and abhorrence -- or was it something else? I do not know. When you walk through Dhaka University, specially in the Curzon Hall area, you can easily observe its dilapidated condition. Since I am a student of Curzon Hall, that is why I am familiar with this area. Dhaka University is the highest ground for education in Bangladesh. But when you see numberless addicts injecting or lying dead drunk just beside Curzon Hall, behind the University gymnasium and Shohidullah Hall, you feel shame. I was admitted at DU in 1999. From the first day of my varsity life till today, I have not found any change in this situation. Interestingly enough, there is a police tent at the end of the road near the petrol-pamp at Chankarpool. I wonder why the concerned authorities like the VC, the provost of SH Hall or any other teachers of Curzon Hall haven't take any stern action against these people. Mahfuz Anam walked through DU and then made a left turn from Doel Chottor to the secretariat, so that he could avoid the miserable scene. Why don't the concerned authorities take a morning or evening walk through the road from Doel Chottor to Chankarpool and take some effective steps to restore the beauty and glory of Curzon Hall?
