Seasonal outbursts

In Bangladesh, winter is a very suitable time for conducting agitations, processions, hartals and other political programmes. This season of the year is free from rain and storms, the sun is mild and the weather is cool and conductive for outdoor activity. Our political parties avail themselves of this opportunity as much as they can to embark upon various programs that disrupt the usual operation and activities of our economy, education, state mechanism, social life and individual daily life.

During this period of the year another important event of our national life occurs, which is the annual exams of our future generation in their respective schools and colleges. It is observed that every year, due to various programs of political parties, exams in schools, colleges and even in universities are being disrupted, which causes irreparable damage to the lives of our children, the future of the nation. It appears from media reports, that various political parties and many others have a lot of political programmes including hartals planned for the month of January.

All concerned are requested to please note that January is the month of the O Level exams. Thousands of students from Bangladesh participate in this internationally conducted exam. The exam is held simultaneously throughout the world under the same routine. Anyone failing to appear at the exam will miss the exam for the year and his guardian will lose a considerable amount of hard-earned money. The exams start on January 5 and will continue during the whole month. As per routine, exams will be conducted on all weekdays excepting Saturdays and Sundays. Considering the future of thousands of our children, I request all the political parties of the country to please take the above matter into account while formulating, effecting or enforcing any agitation programme during the month of January.
