Law and order!

Deteriorating law and order is everybody's concern in our country. Every time people vote they think at least there will be some improvement in this respect. The ruling BNP declared a jihad against terrorism and corruption when they came to power. But day-by-day we have seen the same picture. Some days ago, the government was considering building a "community police" system, which could have been successful, but the way BNP has built up the village government system, has blown up any hope for a community police system. Let us look at some recent events. Up to now, the 'stick and whistle' committee in Natore is the best-known example of a local body taking care of its own protection. Everybody knows that this organisation was immensely successful. Numerous times, government officials expressed their satisfaction with the organisation. Instead of taking initiative to build up systems like this, the government was adamant to dismantle it. The government retreated when they faced fierce opposition from prominent writers of our country. BNP's initiative to make a committee under the DC is just another mockery because all know the DC can't control the local terrorists who often say that they are soldiers of BNP. Let us look at the actions of our home minister. He has dismissed seventy thousand cases, calling them politically motivated. Some are obviously of that type. But you can't say that a murder case is a politically motivated one. He assured his party's men that if anyone has a case against him it is just a matter of two weeks to dismiss it. This is very alarming news. Who is this guy working for? For the terrorists or for the people of our country? There is no assurance for common people (he is famous for his 'Allar mal') but there is assurance for terrorists. And presumably for this type of assurance, the terrorists even do dare to kill policemen on a regular basis. What an irony! We have kept a police force, to ensure our protection, which can't ensure protection for itself. Do we need this home minister? Two years have passed since this government came to power. Isn't this time enough to show some improvement in law and order?
