BNP to hold PP meeting Jan 21 after 1 ½ years
Staff Correspondent
The ruling BNP will hold its parliamentary party meeting at the Sangsad Bhaban tomorrow in a decision that came over one and a half years after a second since the alliance came to power in 2001. The meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Khaleda Zia is likely to focus on Communications Minister Nazmul Huda's remarks about Jamaat-e-Islami's role in the 1971 Liberation War and activities of lawmaker Mahi B Chowdhury. The issues that were in media attention will also figure in discussion, sources said. Since the four-party alliance was voted into office, the BNP held two parliamentary party meetings and its coalition partner Jamaat 12, while the main opposition Awami League held 18 meetings until the launch of the 11th session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday. Of BNP's two meetings, the first elected BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia its parliamentary party leader and the second in June 2002 made a resolution leading to resignation of former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
