Robbers loot Tk 5 lakh in presence of 'patrol police'


Robbers looted goods worth about Tk 5 lakh from a convoy of 10 trucks in presence of patrol police at Rajapur area of Pabna--Nagarbari Highway yesterday.

Agitated truck drivers and villagers barricaded the Dhaka--Pabna Highway yesterday till noon disrupting road communication for some hours.

A police nayek and five other constables of Sathia Police Station have been suspended for neglect of duty. They are nayek Nafis Uddin, constables Azizur Rahman, Salim Uddin, Shakhawat Hossain, Ibrahim Hosssain and police van driver Abdus Samad.

Police arrested one Mahon on suspicion of his involvement with the robbery.

Truck drivers alleged that the robbery happened in front of the patrol police, but they did not come forward to stop the looting of goods from the trucks that continued for about two hours. But the villagers came to help them after hearing their scream, the driver said.
