Govt official found dead at his office

Ramna police recovered the body of a government official from his office in Ramna yesterday.He allegedly committed suicide, police suspect. Police found the body of Mizanur Rahman, assistant director of Natun Jalmohal Prakalpa (New Waterbody Project), hanging from the ceiling of an abandoned lavatory on the fourth floor of Matshaya Bhaban at around noon. They also found the toilet door locked from inside and the toilet had an opening on its roof, large enough for a man to pass, his colleagues said. Meanwhile, Mizan's relatives claimed it a murder. Victim's father-in-law Golam Sarwar told our Dhaka Medical College Hospital correspondent that Mizan had no problem with anyone. "Nothing happened in his life that could lead him to commit suicide," said another relative. Mizan came to office at 9:00am and did his routine work. He went to toilet and did not return for hours, his colleagues added. The 38-year-old government official joined civil service 10 years ago. He left behind his wife Amena Khatun Sheuli, an official of the Planning Commission, and a two-year-old daughter Iana.
