Benapole port strike called off

Four trade organisations, including two C&F agents associations at Benapole land port, called off their indefinite strike after a meeting with the authorities concerned yesterday evening.

In the meeting held at Benapole Customs House, the commissioner of customs assured the leaders of the four trade bodies of meeting their demands in phases. He also sought their cooperation to keep the land port operational.

Benapole Transport Owners Association, C&F Agents Association, Importers and Exporters Association and C&F Agents' Employees Union enforced an indefinite strike on February 24 to press home their several demands including keeping the cranes and forklifts in operation at the port round-the-clock.

"We have brought two forklifts from Mongla port and will procure the required cranes and forklifts in phases," Customs Commissioner Shahabuddin told reporters after the meeting.
