Warne to bowl 'surprise' ball

Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne plans to introduce a new delivery in next month's Test series against Sri Lanka.

"There's something I've been working on. I'm saving it for the Test series, if I get picked," said Warne.

"It's something I've changed my grip with and I'm sure if I land them like I have been in practice then I think it will be very handy."

Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan unveiled his own new delivery during England's recent tour to the country.

Warne has taken 491 wickets from 107 Tests, while Muralitharan has 485 wickets to his name from 85 Tests.

Both are chasing the current record of 519 Test wickets, held by retired West Indies paceman Courtney Walsh.

Warne was banned for 12 months in February 2003 after testing positive at the World Cup in South Africa for a banned diuretic in an out-of-competition test.

He was selected for the three-Test series in Sri Lanka next month after limited appearances for the Victoria state side in the Australian domestic competition.
