Plan on to assign SSF to VVIPs

The government is planning to broaden the scope of work of the Special Security Forces (SSF) to ensure security blanket for both local and foreign VVIPs.

The third inter-ministerial meeting of the Committee for Formulation of Recommendations on the Security of VVIP, held at the Local Government Rural Development (LGRD) ministry yesterday, discussed the affair.

LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan chaired the meeting, which was also attended by home minister, state minister for home affairs, inspector general of police, and director generals of intelligence agencies.

The meeting recommended bringing all government security agencies under direct supervision and control of the national security advisory committee. It suggested restructuring of the security services, modification of law, and providing better training for security service personnel.

The meeting also discussed various ways to take best possible security measures for the diplomatic zone.

It may be mentioned here that a haul of sophisticated firearms was recovered at Kuril near the diplomatic zone recently.

Emerging from the meeting Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan told the journalists, "Within the next three meetings we will be able to finalise different aspects of security services."

State Minister for Home Ministry Lutfozzaman Babar said, "Different aspects came up in the meeting according to which the committee is working."
