Mobile park to Amuse outlying people

A private company is going to launch a door-to-door mobile amusement park to entertain people throughout the country in view of city-centred and inadequate recreational facilities.

The park informally opens to public today on Cox's Bazar sea beach for two months and will visit different districts by turns later, the company Neptune Aquatic Amuse-ment Centre's Managing Director Rafiqul Islam told a press briefing yesterday at Hotel Purbani in the city.

Initially, Ananda Ghurnee, as the company names the park, will run seven rides -- Ranger, Jumping Frog, Dragon Coaster, Swing Chair, Baby Train, Break Dance and Freezbee -- all imported from India, besides seasonal and folk fair, circus, cultural function and food and beverage.

On the basis of people's demand and response, the park entrepreneurs intend to install seven more

rides by phases.

"It's often quite expensive and troublesome for many people to visit Dhaka-based amusement parks from remote places," Rafiqul said, "Instead of inviting them, we'll go to them at district and upazila levels."

He said the most expensive and hard-to-get component to set up an amusement park is appropriate land or open space. Ananda Ghurnee will make transitory amusement arrangements overcoming the land constraint.

Charges for rides in the parks will range from Tk 10 to 30 in addition to Tk 20 entry fee in Cox's Bazar, Rafiqul said, adding the charges will vary from place to place according to living standard and population density.

Ananda Ghurnee will formally open in Cox's Bazar March 11 and travel six districts in a year. Its organisers also intend to bring it to Dhaka.
