UEFA Champs League
Kahn a Real threat

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham says Bayern Munich's wounded goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will be a formidable European barrier for his team to surmount.

Real play Bayern in the second leg of their Champions League encounter on Wednesday and the England captain is expecting a reaction from Kahn after his howler allowed Madrid's Roberto Carlos to equalise in the 1-1 first leg draw at the Olympic Stadium.

"I have always said it and continue to do so: 'Oliver Kahn is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has great character,'" explained Beckham.

"We are all human and make mistakes."

An emotional Kahn, 34, vowed to make amends and "win the game by himself" at the Santiago Bernabeu, but former Manchester United man Beckham, 28, was quick to point out that Bayern need more than an in-form Kahn.

"I think Oliver will need a few of his team-mates to win the game," explained Beckham.

With Spanish champions Real having a crucial away goal, Bayern must score in the Spanish capital.

Real's collection of expensive imports failed to shine in the bitter Bavarian cold and Beckham feels it will be just as difficult in the warmer climate of Madrid.

"We were lucky to get a draw in Munich," confessed Beckham.

"We now have to finish the job but it will not be as easy as people may think.

"Bayern are a strong team as we saw in the first leg."
