Timely commentary
Sonia, Dhaka
Mr. Mahfuz Anam wrote the most timely commentary on "when elected leaders act like despots". We are in complete unison with his comments. Few people will not agree on the despotic nature of the present head of the government. She appears to be living in the ivory tower where no light of truth dares filter in. Her home minister is consistently making untrue statements even in the floor of parliament, allegations concerning corruption through certain Bhavan are clearly loud in the air, her IGP is convicted in the apex court, but she appears completely unmoved. Law and order deteriorated to the lowest mark, university professors are chopped on the campus road, principals are gunned down in their houses, businessmen are regularly extorted, abducted or killed, villagers are roasted alive but her administration remains in apparent hibernation. Prices of essentials are soaring to all time high increasing suffering of the common people. But none is there to look into the matters. The PM is making high tone speeches on development from well decorated stages where rounded up audience clap with injected jubilation. Congratulations for rightly pointing out that we have elected a despot to the highest office. Nobody can deny the wise saying "A nation gets the ruler it deserves".
